Christ, Our Secure Hope
We can find joy in celebrating the gift of a new kind of priest in Jesus our Lord. He mediates a different kind of covenant between God and his people. This morning, we will look at Hebrews 7:1-22 and begin our look at this new relationship with God.
General Announcements
First Hour starting June 1: Discerning Spiritual Paths led by Carol Marshall and Bryan Just. This summer in our first hour class we will be exploring different ways of connecting with God. Are you ever jealous of someone else’s spiritual walk? Do you ever feel that the things that seem to help other people in their spiritual life just don’t work for you? Join us as we discuss different ways of growing close to God and discover how God has uniquely wired you to relate to him.
“If sheep do not have the constant care of a shepherd, they will go the wrong way, unaware of the dangers at hand. They have been known to nibble themselves right off the side of a mountain.
And so, because sheep are sheep, they need shepherds to care for them. The welfare of sheep depends solely upon the care they get from their shepherd. Therefore, the better the shepherd, the healthier the sheep.”
-Kay Arthur (see 1 Peter 5:1-4)
Completing the call. This campaign is for the purposes of retiring our mortgage and beautifying our welcome spaces. Please prayerfully consider what God may have you give towards the goal of $225,000. We are asking that any pledges for the next 12 months be made by June 30. You may drop your gifts and pledge card in the collection box in the foyer. If you have questions, please email Treasurer Kim Cordes (kcordes1313@gmail.com) or Elder Nels Flatebo (nels@theleadersforum.net).
SUMMER TALKS. Starting June 4, Pastor Jim will be hosting, Bible, Sermon, or Spiritual Conversations, on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 8 pm. Feel free to bring along your dinner and your questions! Let’s take this time to open up conversations on what God is doing in our lives, or in our understanding of Him and His Word.
Missionary of the week: Please pray for Ian & Teri Rutter, France, this week.
Becka Wall’s Summer of Service! - This summer, as I’m taking some time off of work, I’m looking to serve the people around me and in my community. I’m offering my services first to VCL. I’m available for physical labor (such as moving, basic handy-work, painting, yard work, etc.), driving (such as to medical appointments), mending clothes, childcare (I am CPR and EMS certified), or running errands. I’m happy to do any of these things free of charge, but money for gas is appreciated, if you feel so inclined. Please feel free to email me at beckajoyjoy@gmail.com, or text me at (224)-419-0549. (Phone calls will most likely not be answered or received in a timely manner.) I pray that, this summer, I can be a blessing to many of the people in our church family.
Today’s the day! We hope you’re planning on joining our picnic following today’s service across the street at Whytegate Park. Come on over . . . Grab a nametag and relax. We’ll begin serving when the hot dogs are ready!
